Building a Resume

As a job-seeker, you must make a resume that contains precise yet relevant information for the recruiter to evaluate your job application. The subsequent paragraphs highlight the key points of consideration for a perfect resume for the position of QA Engineer.

Contents of a Perfect Resume

Your resume must contain the pertinent details in the following chronological order:

  • Your name and job title

  • Contact information (address, phone number/s, professional email id, and social media handles)

  • Resume objective  - This section defines your career objective for applying for the role of QA engineer. It concisely highlights your skills, professional experience, and key achievements to make the recruiter's first remarkable impression.

For a fresher

A zealous and detail-oriented intern keen to join XXX Inc. to take care of all the testing and auditing of software and hardware products and find the issues and bugs related to the product and resolve problems by applying my technical skills to ensure the product meets quality standards. Prior 3-month internship experience in an engineering role in an XXX Pvt Ltd Company.

 For an experienced professional

Trained and proficient QA engineering professional with 5+ years of experience in handling issues with software before a product launch and developing and running new tests and reporting their results to the organization. Desirous of joining XXX Co. to leverage my knowledge and experience gained in the engineer role and offer great technical skills to ensure the best quality product.

Avoid giving excessively generic information in a vague and simple form that appears dull and monotonous to the recruiter.

Now, take a look at the following examples:

A fresher keen to join your company to gain professional experience and develop quality assurance skills in this role.

Or

A professional with technical skills with significant experience in QA Engineer roles seeking new challenges and development.

Your resume objective should fervently explain what you can offer to the QA Engineer role and why you are the best fit.

  • Professional experience - Only relevant experience in QA engineering should be presented in reverse chronological order, i.e., starting from the most recent employment. The keywords should be in-sync with the job description to pass through the ATS process effectively. 

 Examples: 

  • Identified and sets appropriate quality standards and parameters for products.

  • Communicated quality standards and parameters with the QA team.

  • Identified issues, bugs, and defects, in products, and recommended solutions to these issues.

Do not give plain information such as statistical analysis of the product, manual testing practices, or resolving Industry-specific technical issues. 

Hard skills - Various hard skills are required for QA Engineers; they are

  • Knowledge of quality standards

  • An understanding of test automation tools and manual testing practices

  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle

  • A creative mindset 

  • Strong IT skills

  • Ability to identify the strengths and weaknesses of IT systems.

Avoid giving inaccurate information about certifications as, if selected, the recruiter may ask for a copy of the certificates.
